I found this great article over at Smashing Magazine (one of my fav blogs) about how people trick out their laptops. They had a few sleeves and bags, but the coolest pics are of the skins, stickers and engravings that people have done to their laptops ...
Totally worth checking out the full article!
Just posted a review of the vertically-oriented The Luncheon from Crumpler Bags ...
I have been an ardent admirer of Crumpler bags for a long time. But an admirer from afar. Like Dante who admired Beatrice from a distance and obsessively wrote her love poetry - so too has been my relationship with Crumpler bags. I've had a number of friends who have purchased them, but never have myself. But then, one of my dreams came true and Crumpler sent me a couple of bags to review! Awesome! ... I LOVE the look and comfort of The Luncheon. It is good looking and made of high-quality materials. I do, however, have two beefs with The Luncheon.

Per my last post, I've been testing and have now reviewed the Smart Alec from Tom Bihn. From the review ...
The Smart Alec is super comfortable - the straps are wide and well padded. For you folks who are super-ergonomic there are sternum AND waist straps for additional support and security. I like to play it loose, though, so I removed the waist strap (it has a cool design so that when it was removed, there was no extra hardware left; and it lies quietly waiting for me to hike Everest ... shh, don't wake it).
Now, it did take me a while to get used to the Smart Alec. The placement of the opening is different than most backpacks I'm used to. I'm used to a straight top-down opening. But the Smart Alex kind of opens like a can - where you access the interior with the back of the bag facing towards you. I like this very much now because it doesn't expose the contents of your bag as much to prying eyes (don't want anyone to start coveting my chocolate chip cookies and Vanity Fair that I take on the plane with me).
Fun sticker from the laptop bag designer, Tom Bihn!
"It occurred to me recently that, for many people who commute everyday to work or school, their bag is in many ways like a car: not only does it go everywhere with you, it carries/organizes your stuff, it becomes your home-away-from-home, and maybe even reflects who you are. Is your bag an SUV or a sports car? A hybrid or a minivan?"
I've reviewed the Swift Knitting Bag as well as the Checkpoint Flyer (a TSA "checkpoint friendly" bag) from Tom Bihn. And I've got a review of their Smart Alec Backpack coming up. Sneak peek: I LOVE the Smart Alec. Stay tuned!
I came across Colleen's handmade laptop bag today. The fabric is GORGEOUS! Why don't manufactured laptop bags come in this fabric? She gives a bit of detail on how she constructed it over at her blog. Check it out!
Just in time for cruise and hot-weather-getaway season - it's the Casual Tote from Mobile Edge. It has an eco-friendly natural cotton exterior. I did a video review of the Casual Tote in Tan (in also comes in green and blue). To me, it's a perfect travel bag, especially for warmer climates - it looks really fresh and light, a nice change for some of the heavier bags I've been using as the rainy season has set in here in Vancouver.
You can get the Casual Tote on the Mobile Edge website - it retails for $69.99.
Just posted a review of this great design-forward Silver Petal Laptop Messenger Bag from Laurex. From the review ...
I'm reading William Gibson's Mona Lisa Overdrive at the moment and am having a deep fantasy romance with London in winter. The layers of history - the rattle of the Underground - the soft hush of snow falling in the streets as I stride along, boot heels clicking on the sidewalk, the collar of my Burberry jacket turned up against the cold, my Laurex Silver Petal Messenger laptop bag gleaming against my hip, keeping my MacBook Pro (and cyberspace deck) safe from the elements...ahhhhhhhh.
The good folks at Laurex sent me a review copy of the Silver Petal - I knew as soon as I saw it that it would fit nicely into my cyberpunk fantasy for several reasons.
First of all, I love the Silver Petal's sleek messenger shape, its light silvery colour and the unique graphic design on the front flap. Secondly, the Silver Petal is made of durable, water-repellent PVC material - good for both real and fantasy snow. Thirdly, "Petal" is the name of one of the characters in William Gibson's book. Three for three, Laurex!
